John B. Schmitt Obituary (1946 - 2024)

SECOR- John B. Schmitt , 77, of Secor passed away on Friday April 26, 2024, at Carle Bromenn ER in Eureka. His funeral service will be on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, at 11 AM at Calvert-Johnson & Froelich Memorial Home in El Paso with Pastor Michael Peters officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to service from 10-11 AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Ancona Cemetery in Ancona. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the family. Calvert-Johnson & Froelich Memorial Home in El Paso is in charge of arrangements. John was born on December 16, 1946, in Metamora, IL, a son to John and Mabel Smith Schmitt. He married Donna May Poyer on May 22, 1971, in Secor. She preceded him in death in 2017. Surviving are his children; Tammy (Bobby) Perez, Minonk ,John (Katrina) Schmitt III, Secor,; grandchildren; Maria, Elena, Amber; brother George (Jan Luedtke ) Schmitt, El Paso; and several nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers; and 3 sisters. John was a mechanic at Dunmire for over 40 years. In the past he participated in demolition derbies. He loved mowing and tending his garden. He belonged to the Secor Sportsman Club and enjoyed fishing. He especially loved spending time with his granddaughters.
