Jody Lee Sears Obituary (1954 - 2024)

Jody Lee Sears August 9, 1954-May 29, 2024. Jody passed away after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Decatur, Illinois, to PJ and Leona Sears on August 9, 1954. She lived her whole life in Decatur and worked at ADM, Staley’s, and K’s Merchandise. It would be wrong to say that she lost her battle with cancer because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she was always determined. Through her, we learned what resilience and perseverance look like. There was no quit in her. Just because she is no longer here does not mean she lost that fight. If you knew her, she never lost a fight. She is preceded in death by her parents, Percy James Sears and Leona P. Sears, and her brother, Craig Sears. Jody is survived by her siblings Linda Foltz (husband Gregg) and James Sears (wife Tonya) and her three children, Jason Gotts (wife Jodi Gotts), Courtney Batman (husband Travis Batman), and Matt Gotts. Her legacy also lives on through her seven grandchildren: Jacob Batman, Talon Russell, Hannah Batman, Timothy Gotts, Kaitlyn Russell, Christopher Gotts, Levi Gotts, and many nieces and nephews. The love and support in her family were a source of strength for Jody, and they continue to be a testament to her life. We will be holding a small, intimate graveside memorial at Mt. Zion Township Cemetery on Monday, June 3rd, at 10:00 a.m. This is a time for all who knew and loved Jody to come together, share memories, and find solace in our collective support.
