Jayne Hanes Obituary (1943 - 2024) - Mount Zion, Illinois

Mrs. Jayne Leah (Parks) Hanes, 80 years young, of Aiken, South Carolina and formerly of Mt. Zion, Illinois, passed away peacefully in her home and entered the healing embrace of Jesus Christ at 10:20 am on Wednesday, February 14, 2024. A celebration of Jayne’s life and legacy will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Calvert & Wikoff Funeral Home in Mt. Zion, Illinois. Visitation will be held at 10:30 am just prior to the service; Service at 11:00 am; Lunch at Diamonds Restaurant on North Oakland in Decatur at 12:30 pm; and Burial at Boiling Springs Cemetery in Decatur at 2:30 pm. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society in Jayne’s honor. She fought several brutal battles with steadfast faith and courage. A special thanks to Dr. James Wade of Cancer Care Specialists in Decatur, Illinois, the Emergency Room, Intensive Care and Cardiology Staff of Augusta University Medical Center, and her nurses from Agape in Aiken, Anna and Marie. Each of these caregivers and healers tended to Jayne with competent care and compassion. Jayne was born on October 1, 1943 in Decatur to Thomas H. and Bertha F. (Munyon) Parks. She married the true love of her life, Peter F. Hanes, on July 22, 1961 in Marshall, Illinois. When asked about the joy, interests or passions of her life, Jayne always replied, “My Family.” She often stated that just spending time with her family and seeing the faces of those she loved gave her life. An incredibly loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt. Mrs. Hanes is survived by her: Husband, Peter F. Hanes, of Aiken, South Carolina, formerly of Mt. Zion, Illinois; daughter Lori Ann Henderson and her husband, Richard, of North Augusta, South Carolina; son William Dean Hanes and his wife, Tammy, of Mt. Zion, Illinois; grandson Jason Thomas Hanes and his wife, Anna, with their children Paxton Kent, Camilla Vay and Estella Roe of Decatur, Illinois; granddaughter Chelsea Leigh Rogers and her husband, Joshua, with their children Linden Noelle, London Rainne and Lachlyn Chanel of Panama City, Florida; grandson Jefferson Lucas Nale of Mt. Zion, Illinois; grandson Jacob William Hanes and his wife, Selena Smail, of Mt. Zion, Illinois; and granddaughter Angelina Elise Henderson of Knoxville, Tennessee. Jayne was the next to youngest of twelve children and is also survived by her oldest sister Mary Szymkoski (John) and her youngest brother James Parks and his wife Cheryl; brother in law William Hanes (Virginia) and sister in law Donna Parks (Richard), all of Decatur; several nieces and nephews as well as her beloved girls Sheryl Jean Sullivan of Decatur and Lisa Michelle Melton of Winfield, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Mary Morgan, Ethel Haebich, Patricia Hoffmann, Margaret Parks and Virginia “Jean” Hanes; brothers William, Richard, Robert and Joseph Parks. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future . . . will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
