Janice "Jannie" Herman Obituary (1947

Janice Ann O’Brien Herman, lovingly known as Jannie, peacefully passed away surrounded by her daughters on July 28 th 2024. She was born on November 21, 1947, in Bloomington, IL. Jannie resided in Minonk, IL all her life. Visitation will be held at Saint Patrick Catholic Church in Minonk,IL from 9-11a.m. Saturday August 10th followed by a funeral mass at 11a.m. with Franciscan Friars officiating. Inurnment will be at St. Patrick’s Catholic cemetery in Minonk. Calvert-Johnson & Froelich Memorial Home, Minonk are assisting the family with services. Jannie had a passion for cooking and loved trying new recipes to share with her family and friends. She enjoyed all types of music and could often be found dancing in her kitchen with her daughters and grandchildren. Nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her three beloved daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren and a good rum and coke. Jannie loved traveling and visited 48 of the 50 states. Glacier National Park and Grand Canyon held a special place in her heart, and she cherished the memories made there. Jannie graduated from Minonk Dana Rutland High School in 1965. She worked at Minonk News Dispatch, Shell Corporation and SMF Inc. She took pride in any job she had but her greatest job was being a mother. Jannie was preceded in death by her parents John and Lorriane (Proctor) O’Brien, brother Gary O’Brien and brother-in-law Johnnie McGough. She leaves behind her sister Gloria McGough; daughters Trina (Scott) Springer, Tricia (Kyle) Herman Steinbach and Tawn (Brent Deal) Herman; grandchildren Derrik (Chrissy) Gaspardo, Zach, Kate and Taylor Springer, Becca, Sydney and Scarlett Steinbach; great grandchildren Bella, Bobby, Emma and Rori Gaspardo. One piece of advice Jannie gave her grandchildren was “With all your busy hustle going through life remember to stop and smell the roses.” She will be remembered as an excellent example of a strong independent woman. She impacted the lives of those around her with her warm, caring and sometimes sassy nature. Jannie held Catholic beliefs and found solace in her faith.
