Janet R. Zellars Obituary (1938 - 2023)

Janet R. Zellars 85, of Decatur, IL passed away at 3:32 p.m., Friday, December 1, 2023, in St. Mary's Hospital, Decatur, IL. A memorial service to honor Janet's life will be held at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Mt. Zion. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday morning December 14, 2023. Inurnment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, Decatur. Memorials may be made in Janet's memory to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association. Janet was born May 27, 1938, in Decatur, IL the daughter of Loren and Alice (Edwards) Goodpaster. She married William R. "Bill" Zellars on October 4, 1957. He preceded her in death on April 13, 2017. Janet spent her working career as a Bank Teller for Mt. Zion State Bank. She enjoyed serving her loyal bank customers. Janet was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. She loved music and playing the piano and would also play at church for services. Janet's greatest joy was spending time with her family. Surviving are her children: Dave Zellars (Luanne) of Long Creek, Susan Minix (Dave) of Long Creek and Judee Paine (Jim) of Beaumont, CA; special friend: Tom Berry of Macon, IL; brothers: Jack Goodpaster (Linda) of Shreveport, LA and Jim Goodpaster (Lyn) of Valrico, FL; sister: Jane Hickman of Decatur; grandchildren: Leslie, Lindsey, Andi, Niki, Nicole, and Michael; great grandchildren: Josie, Drake, Carter, Roman, Nolan, Palmer, Leo, Bodie, Riley, and Sidney; great-great grandson: Coan. Janet was preceded in death by her husband, father, mother, and step-father: Larry Dennis, and her sister: Joyce.
