Hilda Jorn Obituary (1937 - 2024)

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Hilda J. Jorn on May 14, 2024 in Carlinville, IL. Hilda was born May 30, 1937 near Harvel, IL, the daughter of Clinton and Ava (Williams) House. She married her high school sweetheart, Don Jorn on January 21, 1956 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Coffeen, Illinois and he survives her passing. Hilda’s simple upbringing was typical of the greatest generation; educated in a one room schoolhouse and early morning and evening farm chores. She and Don shared the love of eight children. The family enjoyed camping and Hilda planned several outings every summer. Her children got to visit most every Illinois State Park along with many hidden treasures, such as Burton Cave. Finding hidden treasures at yard and estate sales was also a passion of hers. She used this passion to help others, particularly Native Americans. Collecting coats (especially children’s) and blankets during the summer months, she and Don would drive them to South Dakota Indian Reservations each fall for many years. In addition to her loving husband of 68 years, Don, she is survived by her sons Joseph (Karen) Jorn, Allen (Loretta) Jorn, James (Teresa) Jorn and Jerry (Missy) Jorn; daughters Caroline Jorn and Jean (Michael) McHenry; daughter-in-law Susan Jorn; 15 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; brother and sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, son Vincent Jorn, daughter Janice Jorn and all but 3 of her 13 siblings. Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM, Monday, May 20, 2024 at Airsman & Calvert Funeral Home in Virden. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at Sacred Heart Church in Virden with Father James Palakudy officiating. Burial will follow at Virden Cemetery.
