Harold J. Vargas Obituary (1940

Harold J. Vargas, age 84, of Dwight, IL, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at 10:01 p.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at his residence in Dwight. Cremation rites have been accorded. To honor his wishes, there will not be a service. Memorials in Harold’s memory may be made to the Livingston County Humane Society. Hager Memorial Home is entrusted with his arrangements. Harold was born in Dwight, IL, to Frank and Guadalupe (Toledo) Vargas. He married Linda Chambliss on September 15, 1967, in Pontiac, IL. Survivors include his beloved wife of 57 years: Linda Vargas; children: Mike (Shauna) Vargas, Angela (Jason) Loftus, and Jamie (Kristin) Vargas; grandchildren: Brittany, Damon, and Sevin; and three great-grandchildren: Warren, Jayden, and Rozlynn. Other survivors include one sister: Judy (Gene) Fritz, one brother-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings. Harold attended Dwight High School. He worked for various railroads during his career as a Track Supervisor from 1959 to 2004. He worked for New York Central, Penn Central, Conrail, and Norfolk Southern. He proudly retired from the railroad after dedicating over 45 years of hard work. Harold was an extraordinary backyard mechanic. From the time he was able to pick up a tool, and until his last day, he enjoyed tinkering and being able to fix any car and any part. He also enjoyed and excelled in working on riding lawnmowers after his retirement from the railroad. He was quite the handyman who enjoyed working hard and being able to fix anything. Harold had an abundance of knowledge and a special interest in classical cars. Above all, Harold loved his family. He made an endless amount of precious memories with his family that they will forever carry with them and cherish. He truly was the best Husband, Dad, Grandpa, and Great-Grandpa, and will be deeply missed by everyone who had the honor of knowing him and loving him.
