Grace Irene Royer Obituary (1934 - 2024)

Grace Irene Royer, 90 of Virden, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at Pleasant Dale Place surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 17, 1934 in Atwater, the daughter of George and Dorothy Irene (Marker) VanWinkle. She married Lester Royer on June 29, 1952 and he preceded her in death on October 8, 1993. Grace was a devoted farm wife and enjoyed helping her husband out in the fields, by doing whatever needed to be done, even driving the grain truck. She was a member of the Virden Church of the Brethren, PEO and earlier in life, a member of the Carlinville Home Extension. She worked many years for Hendrick’s Home Furnishings until her retirement. Her greatest love was her family, especially her grandchildren. Grace is survived by her sons Bill Royer of Girard and Bob (Patti) Royer of Carrollton; daughter Jean Ann (Kenny) Tate of Girard; 7 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brothers Dave VanWinkle, Jim VanWinkle and George (Chris) VanWinkle; sisters Nancy (Steve) Swift and Lynda (Andy) Hannah along with numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her loving husband, Lester, she was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Tim Royer, brothers Richard and John VanWinkle and her sister, Virginia Hansen. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at Airsman & Calvert Funeral Home in Virden with Pastor Katrina Spencer officiating. Burial will follow at Virden Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of services, on Tuesday at the Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested and may be made to North Mac FFA or the Virden Church of the Brethren and will be received by Airsman & Calvert Funeral Homes, Virden who is honored to be caring for Grace’s family.
