Gisela "Gigi" H. Schroeder Obituary (1932

Gisela H. (Gigi) Schroeder passed away peacefully surrounded by family and caring staff at Goldwater Care, Pontiac, Illinois on September 24, 2024. Gisela was born on January 11, 1932, in rural Piper City, Illinois, to Otto and Hedwig (Hattie) Lask. Gigi & Winfred (Win) Schroeder were married on November 26, 1966, for 17 years until his death. Also, preceding her were her parents: Otto & Hattie Lask, sister & brother-in-law: Clara & Paul Anderson and nephew: Philip O. Anderson. Survivors are: Deb (Jeff) Buford, Wildwood, Fl and great nephew: Joshua PaulWeckesser, Cullom, IL. Gisela attended an old country school on the corner by her home. She attended Cullom Community schools and graduated. She then attended ISNU, Normal, Illinois, to pursue a teaching career. She graduated in August 1962 with her Masters of Science degree. She taught at Cullom Community High School and also Tri-Point High School for 25 years. After her husband, Win died, Gigi carried on their antique business in downtown Cullom. When Gigi sold her business in 2023, it was one of the longest running businesses in Cullom besides the grocery store. She and Win were some of the 1st vendors of the 3rd Sunday Market held in Bloomington, Illinois, beginning in the 1970’s. Gigi was still going to 3rd Sunday Market until approximately 2019. Gigi was a lifelong resident of Cullom, Illinois, and a lifelong member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and the women’s circle. Donations can be made to St. John’s Lutheran church or the choice of doner. Calvert-Martin is in charge of the arrangements. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Her service will be held Saturday, October 5, 2024, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Cullom, at 11am. Gisela was a strong determined woman that did things her way. She was a loyal friend, loved to send cards and tell ‘Gigi’ jokes. She will be missed and remembered by many.
