George L. Evans Obituary (1940

George L. Evans Sr., 85, of El Paso, IL passed away on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at 10:06 a.m. at the Arc in El Paso. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. on Friday, October 24, 2025, at Calvert-Johnson & Froelich Memorial Home, El Paso, IL with Rev. Josh Gates officiating. Burial with military rites will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 to 10:45 a.m. on Friday at the memorial home. Memorials may be made to the El Paso American Legion Post #59. George was born June 23, 1940, in El Paso, IL the son of Glenn and Mabel Williams Evans. He married Mary Carman on July 24, 1989, in Reno, NV. She died March 7, 2012. Surviving are three children George “Lee” Evans Jr. of Knoxville, TN, Scott (Wendy)Evans Sr. of Florida, Cyndi (Ronald) Smith of Walkertown, NC; two step Children Kenneth (Judy) Crawford of Pontiac, Brenda (Steve) Clark of El Paso; three brothers, Richard (Linda) Evans of El Paso; Ronald (Sue) Evans of Peoria; Kevin (Karen) Evans of El Paso; one sister, Peg (Joe) Trempel of Bloomington; fifteen grandchildren; thirty-six great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, one granddaughter, two brothers Jim and Roger and two sisters Betty Wheeler and Karen Curtiss. George retired from Caterpillar after 26 ½ years where he worked as a shear operator. He was a US Airforce veteran and member of the El Paso American Legion Post # 59. George enjoyed camping, fishing, playing slots, and bowling with his brothers and had several 300 games. He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
