Gary Richard Fay

Gary Richard Fay, 73, of Bloomington, passed away at 3:03 p.m. Sunday, October 6, 2019 at his home.

Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, is in charge of cremation arrangements. In accordance with Gary's wishes, there will not be a public service. Instead, those wishing to honor his memory may do so by making a donation to Toys for Tots.

He was born July 19, 1946 in Kankakee, a son of Donald E. and Roselyn Roberts Fay. He married Carole A. Fieser on August 22, 1984. She survives. Also surviving is his brother, Robert Fay of Springfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gary started playing the trumpet when he was very young and the trumpet remained one of his greatest passions throughout his life. Growing up in Alton, IL his love of music allowed him to be a part of the Alton Marching 100 band as well as playing in the pit orchestra for school musical productions. This love of music also gave him the opportunity to play in the army band in Augsburg, Germany where he proudly served with the 24th Infantry division.

Gary retired in 2013. After retirement he continued to enjoy music, auto racing, and fishing.
