Francis Giberson Obituary (1935

Francis Eugene Giberson, commonly known as “Pops”, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Carlinville Area Hospital. He was born on August 27, 1935, in Kane, the son of Andrew and Martha Fessler Giberson. He married Barbara Lee Bottoms on June 2, 1962, and she preceded him in death on May 26, 2012. In addition to his wife, Barbara, he was also preceded in death by one daughter: Kimberly Giberson; and one granddaughter: Heather Giberson. He is survived by his sons: Ronald Giberson, of Jerseyville; Michael (Karen) Giberson, of Modesto; grandchildren: Patrick (Carrie) Taylor, of Waverly; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. After serving in the United States Army, Pops went to work, ultimately retiring from the Olin Corporation, where he was a machinist producing brass ammunition cases. He enjoyed sports (particularly baseball, basketball and football), watching westerns, traveling, airplanes, firearms, and most especially spending time with his family. Pops also served as a former police officer and volunteer fireman. He was loved by all that knew him. A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., Monday, March 10, 2025, at Airsman & Calvert Funeral Home in Virden.
