Flossie Parr Blackwell Obituary (1919

Flossie Parr Blackwell, 92, of Pana died Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at Heritage Health, Pana. Flossie was born November 19, 1919 in Assumption, IL the daughter of Lon Parr and Orpha Humphreys Parr. She is survived by her children Jim Blackwell, Los Angeles, CA, Trudy (Don) Barry, Oconee, Kim (Peter) Fox, Champaign, Penny (Steve) Scott, Sarasota, FL and daughter in law Phyllis Blackwell, Pana; 8 grandchildren Troy, Chad and Wes Blackwell, Pana, Tim Niehus, Lake Villa, IL, Mark Niehus, Glenview, IL, Tamera Dunseth Rosenbaum, Colorado Springs, CO, Allison and Peter Fox, Champaign; and 14 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Norman Blackwell on July 14, 1999, daughter Cindy Blackwell Niehus on March 8, 2009 and son Jerry Parr Blackwell on October 24, 2011. Flossie was a member of United Methodist Church of Pana, Red Roses Red Hats Chapter, the Pana Hospital Auxiliary, Pana Senior Center and the Arcana Chapter Order of the Eastern Star No. 493. A graduate of Pana High School in 1939, Flossie worked for Dr. Bullington and later for Dr Lensgraf. She met Norman Blackwell of Shelbyville and they married February 13, 1942. Norman was deployed to Germany and Flossie went to New Winchester, Indiana to live with her parents on the farm. She commuted to work in Indianapolis until the birth of her first son, James Norman (Jim). Two years later Cindy was born. Upon Norman's return home from the service the family settle at 509 S. Locust in Pana where she lived for 58 years. Norman and Flossie expanded their family with four more children, Jerry, Trudy, Kim and Penny. She kept the active household running while her husband Norman was on the road working during the week and always provided a home where family and friends were welcome. Flossie, Mom, Nana, Grandma and G.G. will be remembered as a loving, caring, and selfless person, always putting others before herself. Funeral Information Funeral service will be held at 2:00p.m., Saturday, October 27, at the McCracken-Dean Funeral Home, Pana with Dr. David Hultberg officiating.
