Everett "Jay" Basham Obituary (1951

Everett M. “Jay" Basham, Jr, 74, of Washburn, passed away Sunday August 17, 2025, 1:30pm in Washburn. Graveside services will be held on Thursday August 21, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Linn Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Washburn. Pastor Bob DeBolt will officiate. Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association or American Cancer Society. Calvert & Johnson Memorial Home, Washburn is in charge of arrangements. Jay was born February 5, 1951, in Peoria, Il to Everett M. Sr. and Catherine (Lott) Basham. He married Joyce Osborn on February 10, 1973, at the Sunnyland Baptist Church. She survives in Washburn. Also surviving are his son Jason Basham and grandson, Steven Basham, both of Washburn, two sisters, Shirley Smith, Wilmington and Betty Severns, of Creve Coeur and several nieces and nephews. His parents preceded him in death. He served his country for four years in the United States Marine Corp, serving during the Vietnam Era. Jay worked as an over-the-road truck driver and later was a welder. He enjoyed fishing, working in his garden and spending time with his family. He was known for his witty sense of humor.
