Evelyn Jean Schwoerer Obituary (1925 - 2014)

Evelyn Jean Schwoerer, 89, of rural Bloomington, passed away at 4:00 p.m., Friday, October 24, 2014 at her home, surrounded by her family.A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 31, 2014 at East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington with Rev. Paul Walles officiating. Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.Evelyn was born on June 13, 1925 on the family farm in rural Bloomington, the daughter of Guy A. and Lena Mercier Hilton. She married Robert L. Schwoerer on July 13, 1947 in Normal. He survives.She is also survived by three sons, Tom (Sue) Schwoerer, Steve (Kathy) Schwoerer and Jim (Sandy) Schwoerer and a daughter, Rene (Devon) Atkinson, all of Bloomington;10 grandchildren, Matt (Hope) Schwoerer, Amanda (Jeff) Houde, Ken (Annie) Schwoerer, Kevin Schwoerer, Jacob (Carrie) Schwoerer, Stacy (Don) Spaulding, Jamie (Suzanne) Schwoerer, Brent (Melissa) Schwoerer, Brandon (Ingrid) Schwoerer and Reilly Atkinson; and 19 great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by a brother, Guy M. Hilton, a sister, Hazel Willhite, a grandson,rnSteven and a great granddaughter, Ava.Evelyn graduated from Normal Community High School and Stephens College in Columbia, MO. She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Normal. She was very active in the church and served on many church committees as well as serving on the womens cooking circle, choir and she taught Sunday school.Evelyn was also active in Home Bureau and was a 4-H volunteer. She was a member of the Garfield School Club and a lifelong member of the Holstein Association. She also served as an election judge in Dry Grove Township for over 40 years.The family farm was a huge part of Evelyns life. She was born, lived and died on the family farm.The family would like to thank Advocate Hospice, specifically, Janet Killian and nurse Sarah Smith.
