Edward "Ed" Snell Obituary (1945

Edward “Ed” Snell, 79 passed away peacefully on September 19, 2024 at Memorial Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. Ed was born July 22, 1945 in Springfield, the son of Maurice J. and Veronica E. (Greeley) Snell, Jr. He married Dee Harms and she preceded him in death on April 19, 2023. Ed co-owned and operated Snell Plumbing & Heating for 50 years. He proudly served our Country in the United States Navy, stationed in Hawaii while being deployed with the Nuclear Submarine Division. He was a member of the VFW and Virden American Legion Post #386. He was also a Lifetime Member of the Central Illinois Corvette Club and their ambassador to the National Corvette Museum of Bowling Green, Kentucky where he was an active volunteer. Ed’s greatest love was his family and extended family, his clientele, and serving them in every capacity necessary. Ed is survived by his sister, Mary Ann (Steve) Mahoney, sons Bryan (Gina) Harms and John Erin Harms; grandchildren Ethan and Bryley Harms along with nieces and nephews and numerous friends. In addition to his loving wife, Dee, he was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Maurice, Jr. and Joe and daughter, Catherine Harms. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, September 27, 2024 at Airsman & Calvert Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery with full Military Rites conducted by Virden American Legion Post #386. Visitation will be from 4-7 PM, Thursday, September 26, 2024, also at the Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested and may be made to the Arbor Day Foundation, American Heart Association or Virden American Legion and will be received by Airsman & Calvert Funeral Homes, Virden, who is honored to be caring for Ed’s family.
