Dr. Virgilio M. Dycoco Obituary (1940

Dr. Virgilio M. Dycoco, 78, of Pana passed away Thursday, December 27, 2018 in Pana Community Hospital. He was born September 22, 1940 in Libon, Albay, Philippines to the late Leopoldo & Maria (Madrid) Dycoco. Dr. Virgil was raised and educated in the Philippines, graduating from Far Eastern University Institution of Medicine. He came to America to continue his education, doing his internship in Milwaukee, WI and then his residency in surgical training at affiliated hospitals with the New Jersey College of Medicine. Dr. Virgil came to Pana in 1973, serving in general practice & general surgery to the Pana community until his retirement. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Pana; Pana Lions Club; Illinois State Medical Society; American Medical Association and past president of the Central Illinois Philippine American Society & Association of Filipino Physicians of Southern Illinois. Dr. Virgil loved cooking & was always the host. He also enjoyed golfing, gardening, dancing, and singing karaoke. He was a jokester and loved to make people laugh. Dr. Virgil Dycoco married Dr. Gloria Grafilo on March 27, 1970 in St. Patrick's Pro-Cathedral, Newark, NJ. She survives in Pana, along with their children: Jun-Jun (Shawn) Dycoco, Springfield, IL; Maria (Tim Kamer) Dycoco, Overland Park, KS and Melissa (Rob) Scheffer, Mattoon, IL; grandchildren: Leo, Isabella and Luka Kamer and Cole Scheffer; and siblings: Dominador Dycoco, Dolores (Rodolfo) Lopez & Leonor (Francis) Yap. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by 11 siblings. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2019 in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Pana at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Rodney A. Schwartz officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 from 4 to 7 p.m. in St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Pana. Cremation rites will be accorded and private family inurnment will take place at a later date in Calvary Cemetery, Pana. Memorials in Dr. Virgil's honor may be made to Pana Community Hospital Foundation or St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
