Dwaine was born June 4, 1941 in Caliente, Nevada, the son of Ray W. and Neta Baker Goodwin. He married Julie Ann Corbett on May 6, 1966, in the Oakland, Calif. Temple. Julie passed away January 12, 2011. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister LaRae (Albert) Cottino.

Survived by his brother Donald (Colleen) Goodwin, his sons, Benjamin (Leah) Goodwin, O’Fallon, IL and Andrew Goodwin, Princeton, TX, and grandchildren, Erin, Clayton, Madelyn, Tyler, Eliza, Chase, Carson, Emily and great-granddaughter Leylah.

Dwaine met his beloved wife, Julie, at Brigham Young University, where he was directing and she was dancing with the BYU International Folk Dancers. He earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from BYU, and later completed his doctorate at Illinois State University.
Following his service in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, Dwaine accepted a position at Illinois State University and settled in the Bloomington-Normal area. There, he and Julie raised their sons and created a cherished home where they would spend many joyful times with their family. Dwaine lived in Bloomington-Normal for 49 years before relocating to Southern Illinois in his later years to be closer to family.

He was a devoted lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully served in many assignments, including eight years as an Ordinance Worker at the Nauvoo, Illinois Temple, alongside Julie. Dwaine was the founder of the American Heritage Dancers at Illinois State University—a role he took great pride in and poured his heart into for many years.

Dwaine had a deep love for international travel and delighted in collecting unique souvenirs from his journeys, especially Christmas-themed items. He loved his family and was always striving to support and uplift them in many ways.

We are grateful to know that Dwaine and Julie are reunited.
