Taylorville, Illinois

Douglas Lee "Doug" Catlin, 72, of Springfield, Illinois, died Saturday, February 22, 2025, in Springfield Memorial Hospital. Doug was born December 10, 1952, in Decatur, Illinois, the son of Jesse Victor and Aleita Mae (Kestner) Catlin; he was the youngest of six children. He grew up on a farm in rural Blue Mound, and graduated from Blue Mound High School in 1971. He graduated from St. John's College of Nursing in 1979 as an R.N, and then Sangamon State (now UIS) with his Bachelor's Degree in Communications in 1988. He worked for 35 years as an R.N. at St. John's Hospital, then after retirement there, for an additional 6 years as an R.N. at Springfield Memorial Hospital. In retirement, he worked part-time at Barnes & Noble.

Doug loved his family and friends, and leaves his sister, Helen (Kenneth) Hohenstein of Mt. Auburn, IL, brother-in-law Larry Allison, sisters-in-law Nadyne Catlin and Kathy Brownlee, as well as nieces and nephews, Pamela Rennert, Kevin (Lori) Rosborough, Diana Schafer, Scott (Gaye) Catlin, Karla Ashburn, Jeffrey Hohenstein, Rebecca (Andrew) Wittmer, Teresa (Bryce) Lovekamp, and Leaan (Leon Kallenbach) Allison, as well as many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Doug also had many close, wonderful friends - Shaun Kerr, LeAnne Berry, Carol Coniglio, John & Kendra Bracco, Becky Beyers, Jan Floyd, and many others.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Phyllis Rosborough, brother James Catlin, brother Dean Catlin, sister Linda Allison, brother-in-law Dean Rosborough, nephew Gregory Catlin, and nephew Bradley Allison.

Doug loved to travel - one of his greatest life experiences was walking the Great Wall of China. He was incredibly well read and could both write and tell an incredible story. He loved the symphony, walks in Washington Park, cooking, a "nice" salad, a good joke, and a good beer. Doug was the guy you always wanted on your trivia team. Most of all, he greatly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Special thanks to the care team at Springfield Memorial for his dedicated end-of-life care.

He requested no funeral service or visitation, but a gathering for family and friends will be held at a later date.
