Dorothy "Drue" Nickel

VARNA- Dorothy “Drue” Nickel, 94, of Varna, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on October 26, 2026, at her home.

Her memorial service will be at 11:00 A.M., on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, at Varna United Methodist Church and will be officiated by lay speaker Kelley Larimer of the Varna United Methodist Church and Pastor Ed Dutton. Inurnment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to a food pantry of the donor’s choice. Calvert & Johnson Memorial Home in Henry is assisting with arrangements.

Dorothy was born in Cook County on July 9, 1932. She was the daughter of Gilbert and Bessie (Sechting) Grampp. She married William John Nickel on September 2, 1950, in Princeton. He preceded her in death in 2011.

Surviving are her children; Delyte (Ed Ernst) Jollisaint, Dawn Tech, Timothy (Brenda) Nickel, Jonathan (Denise) Nickel, Beth Nickel, Brian Nickel, Paul (Lisa) Nickel; 8 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Dorothy attended Christ New Covenant Church in Lacon for years. In years past she played the piano and organ at church. She enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, and especially jigsaw puzzles. She liked coloring, and crocheting. She most enjoyed her family and time spent with her children and grandchildren. She was a dear and loving mother and she will be missed.
