Dorothy Castleman

Dorothy Helen Castleman, 86, of Springfield, formerly of Virden and Auburn, passed away Sunday, June 28, 2026, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL.

Dorothy was born March 9, 1940, in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Felix and Helen (Straus) Yasinski. She married Floyd Castleman Jr. on December 24, 1957. He preceded her in death on January 9, 2016.

Surviving are her two sons, F. Michael Castleman of Springfield, IL and Stephen R. Castleman of Auburn, IL; her brother, Robert “Rip” (Trish) Yasinski of Dawson, IL; her sister, Alice (Steve) O’Neill; and her longtime family friend, Carol Bedini of Springfield, IL, along with many beloved uncles and aunts. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers, Alan Yasinski and Richard (Bonnie) Yasinski.

Dorothy graduated from Auburn High School, class of 1958. After high school, she married the love of her life, Floyd Jr. She worked for the Department of Public Health, retiring in 1992. They both looked forward to their time spent in Lakeland Florida for six months out of the year. She also enjoyed puzzles, feeding birds and squirrels in her yard, tending to her garden, and cooking homemade food, especially Lithuanian dishes. She was a member of West Side Christian Church in Springfield for several years.

The family will receive friends for visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Airsman & Calvert Funeral Home in Virden, IL. A funeral service will follow the visitation at the funeral home with pastor Gary Winkleman officiating. Burial will be in Virden Cemetery.
