Darrel L. Huggins

Darrel L. "Gunner" Huggins, 86 of Taylorville passed away at 5:15pm, Monday November 26, 2012 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. He was born on March 6, 1926 in Buckhart Township, the son of Harry E. and Pearl M Erbar Huggins. In 1944 Gunner enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and saw action in the Pacific Theater. He participated in action against the enemy at Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands from February 19, 1945 until March 3, 1945 when he was wounded in action. He received the Purple Heart Medal for the wounds he received. He was a member of the VFW in Taylorville, and a retired mail carier.

He is survived by many nieces and nephews, and close friends.

At his request, a private graveside service was held at Oak Hill Cemetery officiated by Rev. Bill Kerns officiating. Military graveside honors were also provided.
