Darrel "Gene" Spaulding Obituary (1942

Darrel “Gene” Spaulding, age 82, of Dwight, IL. passed away at the Arc of Dwight Nursing Home on, Sunday, June 29, 2024, in Dwight, IL. Memorial services will be held at Hager Memorial Home on Friday, July 12, 2024 at 2pm. A visitation will begin 1 hour prior to the services also at the Memorial Home with cremation rites to follow. Memorials in honor of Gene may be made to the American Heart Association. Gene was born to John and Mary (Miller) Spaulding on May 8, 1942 in Normal, IL. He married Beverly Heidgen who passed away on May 18, 2000. He is survived by sons, Troy (Tomara) and Jon of Anchorage, AK, twin son, Renn Spaulding of Vandalia, IL and daughter Tara Cormeaux of Lee City, TX, grandsons, Colt Cormeaux, Cayden Spaulding; brother, Garry (Danna) Spaulding of Dwight; sister, Dolores (William) Wahl of Peoria, IL; step children, Julia (Gary) Ellis of Huntsville, AL, John (Liz) Heidgen of Columbus, OH, Jim (Rhonda) of Athen AL; Michael (Stephanie) Heidgen of Paris, France along with several step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Beverly of Huntsville, AL where his ashes will be buried; brother, John “Dick” (Diana) Spaulding of Bakersfield, CA. He enlisted in the US Air Force right out of High School in 1960, serving in California and Anchorage, Alaska as a heavy equipment operator. He was discharged in 1964. While he was the owner of Mr. D’s Restaurant in Vandalia, he was able to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming a pilot and owner of his own plane. He later became the manager of several convenience stores. Hager Memorial Home in Dwight is in charge of the arrangements.
