Daniel Reed

Daniel Lee Reed, 86, of Assumption passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2026, in Pana Health & Rehab. He was born March 5, 1939, in Blue Mound, IL, son of the late Alvis & Gertrude (Whatley) Reed. Daniel married Christine Snyder on March 25, 1957, in Assumption, IL. She preceded him in death on November 23, 2016.
Daniel was a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church, Assumption. He was a lifelong farmer and enjoyed driving antique tractors and riding horses, where he was involved in 50 years of trail rides in the Shawnee National Forest. After his wife’s passing, Daniel continued to volunteer for the Kemmerer Village Horsemanship Program/Equine Therapy Program. He loved spending time with his family & friends.
Daniel is survived by his children: David Lee (Selena) Reed, Assumption, IL; Diane (Brian) Wright, Moweaqua, IL and Daniel (Betty) Reed, Assumption, IL; grandchildren: Nicholas (Chelsea) Wright, Michael Reed, Katie Lee Reed, Eric Reed, Steven Reed and great grandchildren: Izabelle Wright & Gage Wright. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Carol Reed and sister, Thelma Collins
Per Daniel’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and a private graveside service is pending.
Memorials in Daniel’s honor may be made to Kemmerer Village Horsemanship Program and will be accepted by McCracken-Dean Funeral Home who is assisting the family.
