Dale R. "Doc" Hartwig Obituary (1931

Dale Russell “Doc” Hartwig, 93, of Henry, passed away Tuesday December 3, 2024, 6:45 pm at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria. Visitation will be held Monday December 9, 2024, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Henry United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. A Masonic Service will be held at 9:00 a.m. The Rev. Will Meachum will officiate. Burial will follow at Henry Cemetery, where full military rites will be accorded by the Henry American Legion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Henry United Methodist Church, or to the Henry Food Pantry. Calvert & Johnson Memorial Home, Henry is in charge of arrangements. Dale was born August 20, 1931, in rural Hennepin, IL to Earl Harry and Maybel (Childs) Hartwig, Sr. He married Linda Heininger on July 24, 1954, at the Henry Methodist Church. She survives in Henry. Also surviving are his sons, Paul (Marcia) Hartwig, of Ottawa, Duane (Missy) Hartwig, of Farmington, NM, Ken (Shelia) Hartwig, Tim (Helen) Hartwig and a daughter-in-law, Lori Hartwig, all of Henry, twelve grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and three step-great grandchildren. His son Ed Hartwig, and four brothers and three sisters, preceded him in death. Dale was a member of the Henry United Methodist Church. Dale had farmed early in his life, was a mail carrier and worked for Read Brother’s. He went on to own and operate Hartwig Plumbing Heating and Air Conditioning. He had served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1954. Dale was a 50 plus year member of the Henry American Legion and the Henry Masonic Lodge, where he was a Master Mason. He also was Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star. Dale will be remembered for his love of restoring tractors and restoring houses in Henry. He was recognized by the City of Henry and awarded a Gold Key for restoring over 70 houses.
