Cornelia Sommers

Cornelia June “Connie” Sommers passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 in Bloomington, Illinois. She was 97 years old. Connie had been a resident of Martin Health Center at Westminster Village in Bloomington.

Connie was born June 25, 1928 in Jersey City, NJ, the daughter of Cornelius and Beatrice (née Hawson) Whicker. She married Robert Wilson “Bob” Sommers on May 30th, 1948. He preceded her in death in 2010. Connie was also predeceased by her siblings Beatrice (Elbie) Smith, Doris (Jack) Ernst, Joan (Joe) McNally and Richard (Phyllis Michalsky) Whicker.

Connie is survived by her son Ken Sommers (Cathy Johnson), Bloomington; daughter Ellen (Michael) Powers, Darien, IL; granddaughters Alison (Tim) Longfellow, Bloomington; Erica (Matt) O’Neill, Bloomington; Sarah (Larry) Davis (Greenwood, Indiana); and Liz (Mike) Komarek (Plainfield, Illinois). Connie is also survived by great-grandchildren Emmett Davis, Theo Longfellow, Liam Longfellow, and Samantha Komarek, as well as many extended family members.

Connie will be interred at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, Illinois, next to her husband Bob. Arrangements will be private. The family wishes to thank Westminster Village for their outstanding care while Connie was a Westminster resident. Memorials can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice in Connie’s name.
