Bloomington, Illinois
Cynthia "Cindy" Benham Hansen, 69, of Bloomington, entered Heaven on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, from OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, following a two year cancer battle marked by courage, trust in God, and remarkable hope.
Cedar Falls, Iowa became a sweeter, sunnier place when Cindy came into the world there on September 2, 1954, the second of 5 children born to Wilbur and Armilda (McNeal) Benham. She treasured her early years growing up on a farm, graduated from Cedar Falls High School, and later married Dwight Hansen on March 1st, 1975. He survives.
Cindy is also survived by three wonderful sons who loved their Mom beyond words: Timothy (Nicole) Hansen of Weatherford, TX, as well as Matt (Christina) Hansen and Nathan (Laura Moritz) Hansen, both of Bloomington; a sister, Pam (Chuck) Austin, and a brother, Blane (Terri) Benham, of Denver, Iowa. She will forever live on in the hearts and memories of her amazing, hilarious, beautiful and incredibly talented grandchildren: Zachary Marsden, Raiden Hansen, Nora Hansen, and Gareth Hansen. She was immeasurably blessed to be part of an extended family of close-knit friends who cared for her, and remained faithfully by her side, until the very end.
Cindy is remembered as a joyful, loving, hospitable and generous sister, wife, Mom, mother-in-law, Grandma, aunt, friend, and above all, Child of God. Cindy worked as a transcriptionist for BroMenn Medical Center, Bloomington Radiology, and Fort Jesse Imaging Center. She was a member of Bloomington First Church of the Nazarene, and loved welcoming new friends into her home, both as part of the Sister Cities exchange program with Asahikawa, Japan, and as a host for new international students transitioning into Illinois State University.
Among Cindy's greatest joys were her early morning prayer and quiet time, daily phone calls with her sisters, impromptu game and movie nights with friends, and Sunday night China Star takeout dinners with her family. Even in retirement, Cindy built an impressive second career of scoring impossible deals on endless clothing and treats for her grandkids. She was always available and willing to lend a helping hand. She was an encourager. She was a gift, and we will never stop missing her.
Her life will be celebrated with a memorial service at 5pm on Monday, September 18th, 2023 at Bloomington First Church of the Nazarene, 2207 N. Towanda Barnes Rd, Bloomington, IL, 61705. Rev. Linsy Stockham will officiate. A meal will follow.
Burial will take place at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Bloomington, on Tuesday, September 19th at 10:00am. Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, is assisting with arrangements.
