Charles W. “Dick” Stanhouse Obituary (1938

GRIDLEY- Charles W. “Dick” Stanhouse, 87, of Normal, formerly of Gridley, passed away On Thursday, September 18, 2025, at OSF Saint Joseph Medical Center in Bloomington. Visitation will be from 1:00P.M.- 3:00 P.M. on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Christ Community Church in Gridley. Memorial service will follow at 3:00 P.M. with Rev. Grant Stauter officiating. Private family burial will be in Gridley Cemetery, Gridley. Memorials may be given to the Gridley Food Pantry, The Spare ‘N Share, or to the Gridley American Legion Post 218. Calvert & Johnson Memorial Home in El Paso is assisting the family. Dick was born in DuQuion, Illinois on February 23, 1938, a son to David P. Stanhouse and Geraldine E. Pugh. He married Muriel Maureen Waller on October 21, 1966, in Chenoa. She preceded him in death in 2017. Surviving are his daughters, Shari (Adam) Burdick, Gridley, Deborah Diller, Madison, WI, Rosie Smallwood, Peoria; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great grandchildren; siblings, Dean Greenwood, Patricia Carls, Linda Vach, Melanie Rust, Mark Greenwood; and several nieces and nephews. They also raised 15 foster children. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Carlton; and his sons-in -law, Richard Diller, and Jim Smallwood. Dick was a member of Christ Community Church in Gridley. He served in the United States Airforce and was a member of the Gridley Legion Post 218. He was owner/operator of both Stan’s restaurants in Gridley. He enjoyed old cars and painting. He was a well-known and talented singer amongst the community and led a country band in years past.
