Charles "Chuck" Muir Obituary (1929

Charles "Chuck" F. Muir, 91, joined the love of his life, JoAnn on October 26,2020. A private family graveside service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be no funeral or visitation. Calvert and Martin Funeral Home in Pontiac, IL are handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Evenglow Lodge, OSF Hospice, or Odell Food Pantry. Chuck was born in Odell, Illinois, a son to Fred and Margaret E. (Semple) Muir on September 24, 1929. Chuck attended Odell schools graduating from Odell High School class of 1947. He also attended University of Illinois. On December 25, 1949 he married JoAnn Marie Acklin. She passed May 20, 2012. Soon after, Chuck entered Evenglow Lodge, later to Tjardes Health Center, where he has since resided. Engaged in farming his entire life Chuck and JoAnn settled on the farm south of Odell. Together they raised four daughters: Susie (Dan) Gawthorp, Urbana, Il; Michele "Mikie" (Doug) Jones, Pontiac, Il; Josie Noud, Granite City, Il; Jessica (Steve) Durham, Pontiac, Il; ten grandchildren: Lisa Heberg, Lori Abry, Leslie Foster, Andy Abry, Timmy Noud, Terry Noud, Chuck Noud, Marcie Sedabres, Christopher Durham, and Corey Durham; fifteen great grandchildren; a sister; Mary Furry, Michigan; a brother Jimmy Muir, Odell, Il and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Chuck in death along with JoAnn are a sister Katie Butterfield, son-in-law Tim Noud; great grandson Aiden Joseph Abry. Besides being a farmer, Chuck had worked at Pontiac Stone Co., and is a Pontiac Correctional Center Stationary Fireman retiree. Chuck was a proud Mason, past member with Odell Lions Club, Lifetime Elks Lodge, Odell School Boards, Odell Fire Protection District, and a member of First United Methodist Church. Chuck could fix anything with baling twine, duct tape, and epoxy. His hobby was being a craftsman and puttering in his garage. Woodworking was his passion including refinishing furniture, chair caning. He was so proud of the steamer trunks he built for all his children and grandchildren. Chuck was an avid reader. He was very knowledgeable on history and especially interested in the Civil War participating in several civil war reenactments. He and JoAnn were extras in the movies North and South, and Glory. He enjoyed speaking to young students at area schools demonstrating his war artifacts and memorabilia. Chuck and JoAnn looked forward to spending time with their Marco friends at Eagles Nest Resort on Marco Island during January for many years. Chuck was known for his big smile, his kindness to everyone. Most of all he loved his family endlessly. He is forever a "True Gentleman.
