Carol Ann Thoennes

–

Bloomington, Illinois

Carol Ann Thoennes ,62, of Bloomington, IL peacefully passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2025. A woman who was very caring and clicked with older people and had a passion for babysitting both family and friends.
Born on October 5, 1962 to Robert Thoennes and Norma Jean McMurray, Carol was one of eleven children. She attended St. Mary’s Elementary School along with Irving Elementary with graduating from Normal Community High School.
Carol was a school crossing guard for many years for Fairview Elementary in Unit 5. You probably remember seeing her on the corner of Raab and School Street in Normal, Illinois. She had a passion to give her kids treats when they had a certain activities at school. Carol impacted so many students that passed through her crosswalk everyday.
Speaking of passion, Carol worked in several daycares throughout the town she grew up in, along with working with the elderly. Her favorite color was purple. If you knew her, she’s famous for having “very long” fingernails!
She was a huge St. Louis Cardinals fan, her favorite player was Albert Pujols who she had the hots for! She also thought Chicago Cubs Hall of Famer Ryne “Ryno” Sandberg was quite attractive too! Carol would always try to convince her only child to become a Cardinal’s fan, however he stayed loyal as a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan!
Carol had one important source of joy, and that was her only child, Donnie. Some would recall her always giving him “the best” of everything! Always giving him “what he wants”, she sure loved her only pride of joy!
She is proceeded in death by her parents Robert and Norma Jean Thoennes, her brother Rick Thoennes, her sister Susie Thoennes, along with her brother-in-law, Charles Wilkinson, and sister-in-law, Linda Thoennes, and great niece Caity Thoennes.
Carol leaves behind her son, Donnie Thoennes (Jessica-fiancé) and her five grandchildren, Marcus, Donnie Jr., Mackenzie, Bradley, and Austin, all who she loved so dearly!
Her kind soul also leaves behind her many siblings: sisters, Sandy Wilkinson (Chuck), Shirley Thoennes, Patty McClure, Norma White, and Laurie (Thad) Davis, Brothers, Jerry (Linda) Thoennes, Bobby (Donna) Thoennes, and Jimmy (Sue) Thoennes. Along with many nieces and nephews and greats!
She will be deeply missed by all her family, but knowing that she’s flying high with her parents, sister, and brother in Heaven comforts everyone’s soul!
