Carcelia "Jay" J. Mathes

Carcelia "Jay" J. Mathes, 85, of Normal, formerly of Terre Haute, IN, passed away at 9:31 a.m. on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at her home.

Her funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at First Baptist Church of Bloomington, Dr. Rev. Adrian Lamkin will officiate. Interment will be at Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington.

She was born November 20, 1932 in Rockport, IN, daughter of Chester and Sara Stewart Rudy. She married Bobbie N. Mathes on February 23, 1951 in Indiana, he preceded her in death on December 8, 2013. She was also preceded in death by one grandson, Aaron Peacher.

Surviving are her daughters, Caryn Mathes of Seattle, WA, Robin (David) Landry of Normal and Michele Mathes of Bloomington and one grandson, Langston Gunn of Bloomington.

Carcelia was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church for many years, and later Highland Baptist Church, both in Terre Haute, IN, where she also was a member of the church choirs and taught Sunday School. She also enjoyed reading and traveling.
