Byron S. Fierce

Byron Sawyer Fierce, 97, of Cazenovia, IL passed away at 6:20 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at his home with family.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Monday, July 27, 2026, at Metamora Mennonite Church, Metamora with the funeral starting at 11 a.m. church ministers will officiate. Burial will follow at Stewart-Harmony Cemetery, Metamora. Memorials may be made to his church or the Open Arms Food Pantry, Metamora. Calvert & Johnson Memorial Home, Washburn is assisting the family with services.

Byron was born in Roodhouse, IL the son of Russell E. and Maude C. Sawyer Fierce. He married Beulah M. Garber on September 9, 1952, in Metamora, IL they shared 73 years together. She survives along with two sons Daniel (Joanna) Fierce of Dubai, and David Fierce of Cazenovia; one granddaughter Hannah Fierce of Dubai.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Lynette Maier, and two brothers Russell and Ed.

Byron was a member of the Metamora Mennonite Church and served in the Air National Guard. He worked as a mechanical engineer and retired in 1993. He enjoyed working in the yard and gardening as well as bird watching and reading. He also loved spending time with family and friends.
