Brian R. Townsend

Brian R. Townsend, 84, of Decatur, IL passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2026.
Brian was born on October 30, 1941 in La Crosse, WI, the son of Roy and Ellen Jane (Affeldt) Townsend. He proudly served in the Air Force Reserves in the 1960’s. Brian married Carole Sue Ryherd on May 4, 1968. She preceded him in death on October 9, 2019.
Brian was the owner/operator of Culligan Water Conditioning in Decatur for 43 years. He enjoyed playing golf, listening to jazz music and working in his yard. He was very active with AMBUCS and Easter Seals. Brian was a sports fan, especially a fan of the Green Bay Packers, Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bulls.
Brian is survived by his children: Alica Townsend of Decatur, IL and Tyler (Teresa) Townsend of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren: Cameron and Christian Townsend; nephew: Andrew (Amber) Townsend of Fort Myers, FL; niece: Marcy (Oscar Oboza) Townsend of Minneapolis, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and his brother: Richard Townsend.
A service to honor Brian’s life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2026 at Calvert & Wikoff North Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be directed to the Humane Society of Decatur and Macon County.
