Brett Purdy

–

Mount Zion, Illinois

Brett Alan Purdy, 61, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Friday, July 10, 2026.
Born in Decatur on June 29, 1965, to Tommie Gene and Marilyn McMurray Purdy, Brett spent his life in the community he called home. He was known for his strong work ethic, creative spirit, and appreciation for the outdoors.
A skilled painting contractor, Brett took quiet pride in his craft. Yet some of his greatest joys were found away from the job, with a guitar in his hands or tending to his garden. Whether making music or helping something grow, he found peace in the simple pleasures of creating and nurturing. Brett had a deep Christian faith, which remained an important part of his life and brought him peace, comfort, and strength.
Brett is survived by his mother, Marilyn Purdy of Decatur; his brothers, Tommy Purdy (Della), Jon Purdy (Dante), and Chad Purdy (Asta); four beloved nieces and nephews; and many extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Tommie Gene Purdy.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Calvert & Wikoff Funeral Home, 105 W. Main St., Mt. Zion, Illinois. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 16, 2026, at the funeral home.
Those who knew Brett will remember a quiet, gentle man who expressed himself best through his work, his music, and the garden he lovingly tended. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
