Brent Pruett

Brent Pruett, 86, of Springfield, IL, formerly of Hillsboro, IL, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2026, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

Brent was born March 5, 1940, in Pana, IL, the son of Brent and Mary (Mose) Pruett. He married Beverly Pruett on September 13 1960. Later in life, He married Sandra (Yates) Castleman on February 17, 2007.

Surviving are his wife, Sandy Pruett of Springfield, IL; his daughter, Gayl (Brett) Mc Pheron of Blue Mound, IL; his sons, Dan Castleman of Chicago, Rick (Heidi) Castleman of Prosper, TX, Mike (Lisa) Castleman of Bloomington, IL, Steve (Megan) Castleman of Hudson, IL, and Cory (Amanda) Castleman of Virden, IL; his two grandsons, Daniel Pruett of St. Louis, MO and Tim (Heather) Pruett of Panama City, FL; six grandchildren with Sandy: Jackson, Grace, Jacob, Sheldon, Caden, and Reed Castleman; two great-grandchildren, Xander and Lincoln Pruett. He is also survived by his brother, Paul (Dorene) Pruett of TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Beverly Pruett; a daughter, Kimberly Younger; a son, John Castleman; a sister, Sharyn; and a brother, Dennis Pruett.

Brent worked as a security guard for many years at Coffeen Power Plant after retiring from a 35 year career at Decatur Caterpillar. He was known to find many treasures and collectibles at yard sales. He was also involved in the Royal Rangers and Boy Scouts for several years, getting kids involved in outdoor activities. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and was a member of Prairie Temple Assembly of God in Virden.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, March 20, 2026, at Prairie Temple Assembly of God Church in Virden from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. A funeral service will follow the visitation at the church. Per Brent’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded by Airsman & Calvert Funeral Home following services. A private burial of ashes will be held later in Hillsboro. Memorial contributions may be made to Prairie Temple Assembly of God.
