Bonnie Elizabeth Peterson

Bonnie Elizabeth Peterson, 72, of Nebo, KY passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 in Carbondale, IL.
Bonnie was born on May 31, 1953 in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Paul and Helen (Acom) Wiggins. She was a graduate of Argenta/Oreana High School and later earned her bachelor’s degree from Eastern Illinois University where she was a member of Alpha Sigma Lambda Sorority. Bonnie married Michael F. Peterson on December 21, 1971. She loved helping children and worked as a teacher’s aide. Bonnie enjoyed sewing and being with her grandchildren.
Bonnie is survived by her husband: Michael F. Peterson of Nebo, KY; sons: Mark (Shannon) Peterson of Elizabethtown, KY and Kevin (Kassi) Peterson of Carterville, IL; sister: Karen Myers of Middletown, IL; brother: Jim (Kriste) Wiggins of Youngsville, NC; grandchildren: Tyler, Josh, Hunter, Paul (Madison), Matthew, Christopher and Meredith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister: Jeannie (Charles) Blankenship, brother: Richard Paul (Dona) Wiggins and her brother-in-law: Fred Myers.
A service to honor Bonnie’s life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025 at Calvert & Wikoff North Chapel. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Bonnie will be laid to rest at Garver Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Garver Brick United Methodist Church.
