Betty Y. Cook Obituary (1923 - 2024)

Betty Y. Cook, age 100, of Pontiac, passed away at 4:00 a.m. on Friday, February 16, 2024, at Goldwater Care Nursing Home in Pontiac, IL. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at Calvert and Martin Funeral Home in Pontiac, IL. A visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Reverend Gretchen Stinebaugh will be officiating. Calvert and Martin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Betty was born on July 30, 1923, in Kempton, IL, to Clifford and Hattie May (Todd) Lopeman. She married James Q. Cook on February 8, 1945, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Pontiac. He preceded her in death on January 25, 2007. Survivors include her two sons: James (Barbara) Cook of Chenoa, IL, and John (Lindy) Cook of Bloomington, IL; two grandchildren: Benjamin (Sara) Cook, and Caitlyn (Chuck) Bengele; four great grandchildren: Harper, Harrison, Isla, and Oliver. She also is survived by many nieces, nephews, and a very special friend: Dolores Locke. She is preceded in death by her parents, loving husband: James Cook, one brother: John Lopeman, two sisters: Anne Baus and Dorothy Eacret, and one grandson: MT Cook. Betty was a member of the Elk’s Club, First United Methodist Church, and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She worked for John Heenan for many years and continued to work for Kelly Electric as a bookkeeper until her retirement. Betty was an avid Chicago sports fan. She enjoyed playing cards with her card club, puzzles, and decorating for every holiday and season. In her younger years, Betty enjoyed modeling for the catalogs at Hechts Clothing Store. She was a proud member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority and loved doing activities and events with her sorority sisters. She loved a good cup of coffee, spending time with her family, and visits from her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was the best mom, grandma, and great grandma.
