Betty Heggy

Betty M. Dalby Heggy, 93, of Virden, IL, passed away Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Springfield Memorial Hospital. Betty was born June 13, 1932, in Gillespie, IL, the daughter of Loren and Eva (Steele) Dalby.

Betty is survived by her brother and sister-in-law William and Susan Dalby. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her siblings: Jack Kirby Sr., Bertha Hines, George Kirby, and Loren M. Dalby.

Betty graduated from Virden High School, class of 1950. After graduating high school, she became an accountant working for Franklin Life Insurance for six years. She retired from the State of Mississippi Legislative Peer Committee in 1994, after sixteen years. She was an avid square dancer. She also was a member of Grace Southern Baptist Church in Virden for many years. Betty was a remarkable seamstress and was happiest in her sewing room. She was an inspiration to all who knew her.

Per Betty’s wishes, cremation rites have been accorded by Airsman & Calvert Funeral Home in Virden, IL. No services will be held, and she will be laid to rest at Virden Cemetery.
