Awanda Gilroy Obituary (1942

Awanda Gilroy, 76, of Columbus, Indiana, formerly of Stanford, Illinois, passed from this life at 7:25 a.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at her home. Mrs. Gilroy was born April 28, 1942, in Bloomington, Illinois, the daughter of Robert and Louanna Geary Evans. She married Jim Gilroy August 30, 1958; he survives. A homemaker, Mrs. Gilroy was a child care provider and a cook at the Ben Funk Elementary School in Heyworth, Illinois. She was a former member and treasurer of the Shirley Christian Church in Shirley, Illinois and was a current member of the Garden City Church of Christ in Columbus. Mrs. Gilroy along with her husband, Jim, was a long time Tupperware Representative. She cherished the time she spent with family and she enjoyed doting on her grandchildren. She accepted and cared for her son-in-law and daughter-in-law as if they were her own. Mrs. Gilroy was an avid reader and scrapbooker. She enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs with family and it was said that she was the world's best cook. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Jim; her son, Brian Gilroy and his wife, Becky of Columbus, Indiana; her son-in-law, Brett Knisley of Stanford, Illinois; grandchildren, Ori Gilroy, Kheely, Zane, and Raiden Knisley and Noah and RuthAnne Gilroy; a sister, Roberta (Bob) Burns of Stanford, Illinois; brothers, Jerry (Shari) Evans of Delavan, Illinois and Gerald (Carol) Evans of Shirley, Illinois; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Mrs. Gilroy was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Becky Sue Knisley and a brother, Robert Evans. Family and friends may gather for visitation from 2-4 p.m. (ET) Sunday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home, 1029 Washington Street, Columbus, Indiana. The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. (CT) Tuesday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, 1115 E. Washington Street, Bloomington, Illinois with Danny McCubbins officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. (CT) until service time Tuesday at the funeral home in Bloomington. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Stanford, Illinois. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shirley Christian Church or the Garden City Church of Christ.
