Andrew “Andy” Lynden Bailey, age 63, was born on March 30, 1963, at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama, to Dr. Philip James Bailey and Lynda Sue Cushing Bailey. He passed away peacefully at home in Assumption, Illinois, surrounded by his loving family.
Andy is survived by his devoted wife, Dianne Bailey; his son, Josh Bailey and wife Megan; his cherished granddaughter, Devlin Bailey; and his loyal support puppy, Penny. He is also survived by his sister, April Hunter; nephew, Matthew Hunter; niece, Amanda Wallace and husband Ahsten; brother, James Bailey; and nephew, Brandon Bailey.
He was preceded in death by his father, his mother, his niece Elizabeth, and his loyal furry friend, Marlow Jane.
Andy proudly served his country in the United States Army, where he was honorably discharged as an expert marksman and generator mechanic. He was a friend to many and truly never met a stranger. Known for his mechanical skill and generous spirit, Andy built two Harley-Davidson motorcycles in his lifetime, “wrenched” on countless bicycles for neighborhood children, and was always ready to lend a hand to friends needing motorcycle repairs. Riding his motorcycle with the wind in his face was one of his greatest passions.
Andy lived by a simple but powerful messages that he shared with his son: “Read what you don’t know” and “you can do anything.” That belief reflected his confidence in hard work, learning, and self-reliance.
Andy has graduated from his painful cancerous body to a spirit that will be with us all always. He leaves behind memories filled with laughter, stories, and the unmistakable presence of a man who loved deeply and lived fully.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made in Andy’s honor to a local animal shelter, in recognition of his love for animals and his faithful companions Marlow and Penny, or to the Cancer Care Institute, a cancer research organization dedicated to advancing treatments and cures for this horrible disease that impacts too many.
In keeping with Andy’s wishes, private family services will be held and cremation will take place. Those who knew and loved Andy are encouraged to celebrate his memory in their own way—by sharing stories, riding the open road, lending a helping hand, or raising a glass in his honor.
