Alynda Stengel Obituary (1933 - 2024)

Alynda “Lyn” Stengel, 90, of Decatur, IL passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2024. Lyn was born August 11, 1933 in Springfield, IL to Mary and Samuel Ryerson. She married John Francis Stengel on August 27, 1955. Lyn is survived by her son Jeff (Linda) Stengel, of Eagle, Idaho, son Greg Stengel, of Decatur, and son Steve (Charlene) Stengel, of Royal Palm Beach, Florida and two grandchildren, Jack and Anna Stengel. Lyn was preceded in death by her husband John Stengel. Lyn graduated from Springfield High School and received her undergraduate degree in elementary education from Millikin University in Decatur. After graduation, Lyn taught first grade in the Lakeview District. Lyn was very involved in her children’s schools, sports and church activities while they were growing up. She was an active member of a number of organizations including Pi Beta Phi, president of St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary, Fun Fair Chairwoman, PEO International, Junior Welfare and many others. Lyn was also an avid golfer and there was nothing she loved more than being on the golf course with friends. She loved her husband and family dearly and cherished time with them. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday February 3, 2024, at Holy Family Catholic Church. Inurnment will follow at North Fork Cemetery, Decatur. Calvert & Wikoff Funeral Home is assisting the family with services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Scovill Zoo, 71 S. Country Club Road, Decatur, IL 62521.
