Alvin J. Austin Obituary (1927

Alvin J. Austin, age 97, of Emington, passed away at 12:10 a.m. on Friday, February 2, 2024, at Arc at Dwight. Cremation rites have been accorded. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, February 9, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Saunemin United Methodist Church, with Pastor Dan Knutson officiating. Burial will follow the service at Union Cemetery in Emington, IL. Memorials in Alvin’s memory may be made to the family. Calvert and Martin Funeral Home in Pontiac, IL, is in charge of the arrangements. Alvin was born on January 24, 1927, in Emington, IL, to Matt and Ada (Swisher) Austin. He married Mary E. Branz on January 25, 1959, at the Emington Congregational Church. She preceded him in death on October 23, 2023. Surviving him are his daughters: Sandra Kambic and Sharon Austin; grandchildren: Scott (Kelsey) Kambic of Campus, IL. Sara (Melissa) Kambic of Wesley Chapel, FL; two great grandchildren: George and Kendall Kambic; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law: Ruth Sancken, Myrtle (Gerald) Bressner, and Donna Hooley. He is preceded in death by his parents, loving wife: Mary Austin, son-in-law: Donald Kambic, and four brothers: Stanley, Carl, Maurice, and Merle Austin. Alvin graduated from Reddick High School. He served in the United States Army after high school. He then worked at RR Donnelley’s and farmed after proudly serving our country. He was a member of the Emington Congregational Church. Alvin was an avid Chicago Cubs baseball fan. He enjoyed everything baseball, but especially watching the Cubs’ games. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed the time on the course. He also really loved watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy on TV. Above all, he loved being involved in his beloved kids and grandchildren’s lives. He was always there for them and loved taking part in watching them succeed at everything they did. He was the best husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa and loved his family immensely.
