GRIDLEY- Aletha J. "June" Freed, 100, of Gridley, passed away on Saturday November 4, 2023, at ARC Nursing Home in El Paso. Visitation will be from 4 - 7 PM on Thursday, November 9, 2023, at Calvert-Johnson & Froelich Memorial Home, 209 N. Grant St., El Paso, IL, 61738. Her funeral service will be at 10:30 AM on Friday, November 10, 2023, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Gridley Cemetery, Gridley. Memorials may be given to G.E.M.S. or Christ Community Church, Gridley. Calvert-Johnson & Froelich Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements. Aletha was born in Bremen, Indiana on June 2, 1923, a daughter to Ray and Lavina Rinkenberger Tool. She married Neal Downen in St. Louis, MO, on February 25, 1942. He passed away on April 9, 1978. She later married Harold Freed on October 10, 1987, in Gridley. He preceded her in death in 2005. She is survived by her daughters, Betty J. (Ken) Landrus, Madison, Ohio, Connie Armstrong, El Paso, IL, Debra (Ken) Ford, Kenny, IL, 21 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, and 27 great-great grandchildren, and 1 sister, Rita Sanders. She was preceded in death by both of her parents, 1 brother, 2 sisters, 3 sons, Robert, Ronald, Donald, grandson, Sean, granddaughter, Laura, and great-grandson, Josh. Aletha was a member of Christ Community Church in Gridley and the Home Extension. She worked at General Electric in Bloomington for 21 years.
