Alberta Louise Patton Obituary (1927

Alberta Louise Patton 98, of Lexington, IL passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, September 20,2025 at The Loft Nursing home in Normal at 3:39 p.m. She is survived by her daughter Diana (Cliff) Piper, daughter Denise Donnell, and son Gary (Sue) DeVore, brother Gordy (Diane) Hodges, and sister Dorthy Unger. 4 stepchildren, 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and I5 great-great grandchildren. She was proceeded in death, by her husband Gene Patton, parents Garnis and Ruby Hodges, four brothers (James, Lyle, Dean, Kenneth) , two sisters (Betty, Ginny), eldest son David Devore and great grandson Cory Vance. Louise was a lifelong resident of Lexington where she graduated high school, lived, and worked for many years as secretary in the school office at both the grade school and high school. She later worked at Bloomington Federal Bank until her retirement. Louise was a member of St Paul’s Lutheran church in Lexington. Louise loved visiting with family and friends and would sit for hours asking questions about how everyone was, listening, and sharing stories from days past. Candy from the candy dish was always offered and if you were staying long enough, she would offer to cook you a casserole (Casserole queen for sure). She loved her church and her community and always kept up on the latest news around town. Her family was her greatest joy and took immense pride in watching it grow across 5 generations. Even as she aged she could tell a story about every individual in the family and would always celebrate their major milestones with a call, card, or visit. Many of us would say she was tough and firm and gave her honest advice to keep us in line. But at the same time was always there with support, guidance and love. We each have our own set of memories, stories, and key things that will forever remind us of her. She once said that she was afraid of being forgotten, but that’s just not possible. Along with her memory in every hand-made gift such as birthday cards, hand sewed clothes, painted ceramic Christmas trees, cross stitched wall hangings, she also gave us the gift of education with her tutoring, key memories from trips she took us on, life-long lessons (sometimes hard lessons), and her helping hand when needed. We will miss seeing her smile and hearing that laugh but are comforted knowing she is at peace. Louise requested to be cremated and only a graveside service. Celebration of life will be held following the service. Please join us to celebrate the 98 years she lived. Her Public Graveside Service will be Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 11:00 am. At Lexington Cemetery -1501 PJ Keller Hwy, Lexington, IL with Pastor Kyle Ronchetto officiating. Her celebration of Life will follow on Saturday from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church -107 E. Chatham St., Lexington, Illinois. Calvert-Johnson & Musselman Memorial Home, Lexington is assisting the family with services. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lexington, Illinois or “The Loft” Nursing Home in Normal, Illinois.
