Phillip G. Skip Emery, 79, of Bloomington, passed away peacefully at 9:15 p.m., Monday, November 27, 2017 at his home surrounded by family.Skip was born September 8, 1938 in Bloomington, the son of Albert and Lucille Auth Emery. He married his high school sweetheart Ruth Ann Potter on November 3, 1956 in Bloomington. She survives.Also surviving are two sons, Phillip Emery of Mackinaw and Timothy Emery of Bloomington; a brother, Andrew (Kathy) Emery of Meridian, Idaho; a granddaughter, Stephanie Downen of River Forest; a great-grandson, Kaleb Downen; and a son-in-law, Steve Downen of Normal.He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Anna Downen; a grandson, Benjamin Downen; and three siblings, Mary Schultz, Albert Emery and Connie Houk.Skip was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He retired from Nussbaum Trucking in 1998 after thirty years of service where he was known for his great work ethic. In retirement he loved his time with family, was an avid NASCAR fan, and enjoyed the companionship of his two dogs.Skips family wish to express sincere gratitude to the angels of Advocate Hospice services for their compassionate support and care.Honoring Skips wishes, a private celebration of life ceremony is planned.
