John "Moon" Mullen Obituary (1930

John "Moon" Mullen, 87, of Cornell, IL passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Tjardes Health Care Center at Evenglow Lodge in Pontiac, Illinois. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Friday, February 2, 2018 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pontiac, IL. A rosary will be recited at 3:30 pm on Friday at Church prior to visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pontiac with Father David Sabel officiating. Burial will follow services on Saturday at Cornell Cemetery where full military rites will be accorded. Memorial contributions may be made to Evenglow Lodge in Pontiac, Illinois or Grass Roots Food Pantry in Cornell, Illinois. Moon was born May 28, 1930 in Pontiac, Illinois a son of William and Ellen (Kuhn) Mullen. He married Joan Marie Hatzer on November 22, 1951 and they were married for 64 loving years. She passed on November 20, 2015. He is survived by: two daughters: Kathleen (Jack) Moore of Cornell and Teresa (Gary) St. Cin of Coal City; one son: Terry (Joanne) Mullen of Pontiac; nine grandchildren: Kelly (Ben) Boyer, Katie (Chris) Fisher, Craig (Jenna) Moore, Cortney Moore, Allison (Stephen) Miller, Aubrey (Justin) Blaine, Shelby St. Cin, Jessica Mullen, and Rebecca Mullen; Ten great grandchildren: Cade, Mya, Lauryn, Mark, Layla, Reagan, Rowan, Huck, Brixton, and Easton; and his siblings: Patrick Mullen and Dorothy (Chuck) Klein. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; siblings: Mary (Bud) Goley and Joe (Velda) Mullen; and sister-in-law: Phyllis Mullen. Moon was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Pontiac, the Operating Engineers for over 50 years, and the Sons and Friends of Erin. He was raised on the family farm outside of Flanagan and attended the Flanagan schools. Moon served his country in the United States Navy. Once he met his wife, Joan, they were some of the founding members of Valley View Industries in Cornell, IL. He worked hard all his life even up to his final days as a consultant. Moon loved his family and was everybody's friend. He enjoyed mowing and working in his shed and rides in the country especially with a stop at Dairy Queen.
