John Allan Carlon Obituary (1929 - 2014)

John A. Carlon, 84, of Bloomington, died at 6:18 a.m. on Friday, October 17, 2014 at Heritage Health in Normal. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at Epiphany Catholic Church, with Monsignor Eric S. Powell officiating. Interment will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Normal. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimers Association. To express condolences online, please visit www.carmodyflynn.com. He was born on December 27, 1929 in Danville, son of Clarence and Myrtle Burdan Carlon. He married Patricia A. Honsa on June 6, 1959 in Berwin. Surviving are his wife, Patricia, of Bloomington; two sons, Mark A. Carlon of Bloomington and James A. (Lora) Carlon of Westchester and three grandchildren, Stacie Neumann, Tiffany Carlon and Mitchell Carlon. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren and one sister, Edith Samet of Inverness. John graduated from Illinois State University in 1959 with a Bachelors Degree of Science and Education and he went on to teach history at Lexington High School until 1961. In 1964, he graduated from the University of Illinois, College of Law and then worked as an assistant States Attorney until 1965. From 1965 to 1998 he owned a private law practice in Normal, until his retirement. He was a member of the Cornbelt Lapidary and Geological Society, where he was president from 1968 " 1970. He was also was an Amateur Mineralogist and Curator of Funk Gem and Mineral Museum from 1976-1982.
