Jerry W. Champine, 74, of Chenoa, died at 3:07 p.m. Friday, March 20, 2015 at OSF St. James John W. Albrecht Medical Center in Pontiac due to complications of pulmonary fibrosis.At his request, there will be no funeral services. Cremation rites have been accorded by Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington.He was born April 24, 1940 in Ceylon, Minnesota, a son of Col. George and Grace (Meyers) Champine.Surviving are three children, Brian (Bernadette) Champine of Albany, CA, Brad Champine of Antioch and Debbie (Russell) Salmi of Gurnee; six grandchildren, Max, Sasha, Madigan and Delaney Champine, Samantha Salmi and Isabella Simonetti; three brothers, Robert, Ray and Veryl Champine; and two sisters, Jeanne Lamp and Marilyn Will.He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Pam Champine; and a brother, Donald Champine.Jerry grew up on the family farm west of Ceylon and graduated from Ceylon High School in 1958. Immediately upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served in various locations around the world, retiring as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. Jerry lived in Wisconsin and Illinois working for various civilian organizations before settling in Pontiac. He had recently moved to Chenoa due to health reasons.
