Ilena Steeby Obituary (1932

Ilena Steeby, 90, of Pana passed away Thursday, December 15, 2022 in Hickory Estates Memory Care. She was born August 12, 1932 in Shelby County, IL to the late Henry & Edna (Raymond) Godwin. She married Elvin Lee Shelite on August 14, 1951. They had two children and later divorced. She then married Carl H. Steeby on June 23, 1990 in Decatur. He preceded her in death on September 23, 2010. Ilena worked as a secretary for the State of Illinois. She was also a volunteer for Pana Community Hospital, transporting patients to their appointments. She was a member of the Ramsey Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening, especially plants & flowers. She also loved fishing, reading and shopping with her daughter. Her greatest love was for her grandson, Hunter. Ilena is survived by her children: Mark (Michele) Shelite, Herrick, IL and Laura Havrilka, Pana, IL; grandson, Hunter Shelite and sister, Linda Sarver, Pana, IL. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Ron Havrilka and siblings: Leroy Godwin, Leon Godwin, Lois Cook, Doris Cox & Wayne Godwin. Funeral services for Ilena will be held Monday, December 19, 2022 in McCracken-Dean Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jeff Shouse officiating. Burial will be in Tower Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 10:00 a.m. until service time in the funeral home. Memorials in Ilena's honor may be made to donor's choice and will be accepted by McCracken-Dean Funeral Home who is assisting the family.
