H. Thomas Krause, 85, of Normal, passed away at 5:24 p.m., Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at Heritage Health in Normal.His memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Epiphany Catholic Church, Normal with Rev. Eric Powell officiating, military rites will follow by the Bloomington-Normal American Legion Honor Guard. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Normal. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 18 at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington with the rosary recited at 3:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be from 9:30-10:30, Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Epiphany Rectory Building Fund or St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital.Tom was born May 1, 1931 in Austin, Minnesota, the son of Hillary Jacob and Patricia Haggerty Krause. He married Carol Jean Perl on August 6, 1955 in Austin, Minnesota. She survives. Also surviving are three children, Kevin (Christy) Krause of Downers Grove, Anne (Steven) Flagg of Sioux City, SD and Kathleen (Jerry) Fuller of Rockford; six grandchildren, Hillary, Zachary (Megan) and Patricia Krause; Amber and Ashley Engelkes; and Krystin Fuller; one great-granddaughter, Charlotte Krause; and a sister, Rita (Robert) Otto of Pittsburgh, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Mark Joseph Krause.Tom graduated from St. Johns University in Collegeville, MN and received his masters degree from the University of Colorado. He then served in the US Army at the end of the Korean War. Tom spent 40 years with State Farm Insurance Cos, retiring in 1996 as assistant V.P. of Accounting. He had several designations, including CLU and IASA.Tom volunteered at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center for 10 years and the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Program. He was past president and member of the Golden K Kiwanis as well as past president of the ISU Senior Professionals Organization.Tom was a charter member of Epiphany Catholic Church, a member of Thomas Carmody Knights of Columbus Council and American Legion Post 635, all in Normal, VFW Post 454, Bloomington and was an avid ISU Athletic Booster for over 50 years.Tom was very involved in his childrens activities and was always there to volunteer. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends.
